Biography:
Rex Stewart Wood was a career Navy pilot from Moulton. On June 2, 1967 he completed a successful catapult launch from the USS BON HOMME RICHARD for routine air patrol over the Gulf of Tonkin. His F-8 Crusader disappeared from radar approximately 2.5 miles from the ship. When the plane did not appear at its rendezvous coordinates, an extensive search was ordered but no evidence of the aircraft was found. Wood’s body was never been located.
