Biography:
Richard James Meighan played football and graduated in 1962 from Sumner Community High School in Bremer County. He joined the Army in 1967 at the age of 23. Meighan trained at Fort Dix, NJ for radio and teletype school, and then to Fort Gordon, GA for further training in communications. He was shipped to Vietnam in November 1967, where he served in an artillery unit. He died of injuries received in an enemy rocket attack on his base near Hoc Mon, South Vietnam on March 17, 1968. Meighan was buried at Mt Calvary in Sumner.
