Biography:
Richard Lee Goodman, nicknamed Goody, grew up in Des Moines. He was described as a kind young man with “a contagious smile.” Goodman joined the Army and went to Vietnam in 1967. He completed a 1 year tour and volunteered for a second in October 1968. He was serving as an infantry advisor when he was killed. On November 29, 1968 SGT Goodman received wounds from an enemy blast. He was transported to a military hospital outside of Saigon where he expired 4 days later. The 20-year-old’s body was buried at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
