Richard M Welch

Richard M. Welch of Maxwell was a graduate of Maxwell High School in the class of 1962. He then graduated from Iowa State University in 1966 before joining the Air Force as a pilot. First Lieutenant Welch died on October 2, 1968 when the aircraft that he was co-piloting crashed just after takeoff from the Utapao Air Force Base located south of Bangkok in Southeast Asia. A graveside service with military rites was conducted at the Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, IA. Welch left behind a wife and young son.
