Biography:
Rickey Don Revland was raised in rural Garner and graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in the class of 1966. The August after graduation Revland enlisted in the Marine Corps. After training his first deployment was to Okinawa, Japan. From Japan he went straight to Vietnam, he was killed during the fst week of his tour. PFC Revland died on May 5, 1967 from fragmentation wounds to most of his body inflicted by an enemy mortar attack. The incident occurred near Huong Hoa in the vicinity of Khe Sanh. Two other Americans died during the mortar strike. The 19-year-old PFC Revland’s funeral service was held at Saint Paul Lutheran Church and his body was buried in the Concord Cemetery, both in Garner.
