Biography:
Ottumwa native Ricky Gene Hall was killed ten days after arriving in Vietnam. He was a 1966 graduate of Ottumwa High School and joined the Marine Corps in January 1967. PFC Hall was sent to Vietnam at the end of July 1967 after marrying a Burlington native. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Division as a machine gunner. Ten days into his tour, on August 2, 1967, PFC Hall was wounded in both legs during Operation Pike. The 19-year-old’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.
