Biography:
Ricky Maurice Glaspey was born in Waterloo and moved to Mason City when he was a teenager. Glaspey graduated from Mason City High School in the class of 1967. Before entering the service he attended classes at North Iowa Area Community College and worked at McDonald’s. Glaspey was a member of the First Presbyterian Chruch in Mason City. He joined the Marine Corps in January 1968 and went to Vietnam in September 1968 as part of the 1st Marine Division. He was married prior to leaving for Southeast Asia. On December 26, 1969 PFC Glaspey was killed during a night ambush operation. Official documents site wounds from a missile as the cause of death. A fellow Marine from California was also killed in the incident. His body was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. He was 20 years old at the time of his death and he left behind a wife and daughter.
