Biography:
Robert Bruce Leonard, who grew up in Des Moines, was aboard a Grumman C-2 Greyhound cargo aircraft along with 19 other passengers and crew on October 2, 1969. The plane was flying from the Philippines to various aircraft carriers in the Gulf of Tonkin. Around 7:00 am, while approaching the USS <i>Constellation</i>, radio contact was lost with the aircraft. Search operations sighted debris and oil on the surface of the water. All 20 aboard were presumed killed with their remains uncovered.
