Biography:
Robert Charles Barta of Norway graduated from LaSalle High School in the class of 1965. He then attended Loras College before enlisting in the Marine Corps in September 1966. PFC Barta completed training and arrived in Vietnam in March of the following year. He was fatally wounded on July 2, 1967 when he was hit by a missile near Thang Bihn. The missile entered his left arm and exited through his abdomen. His body was buried at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Fairfax with full military rites. Barta was 20 years old at the time of his death.
