Biography:
Robert Eugene Karr was the youngest of three sons and was raised in Wellman in Washington County. As a young man he played football for Mid-Prairie High School, where he graduated in the class of 1965. Karr was drafted by the Army in January 1966. He was sent to Vietnam in November of the same year. SP4 Karr’s MOS was a Pioneer with the 1st Infantry Division, a job that required the clearing of mines from Vietnamese roads. He was killed on February 25, 1967 when his unit was hit by enemy small arms fire while on a patrol. He was 20 years old and unmarried at the time of his death. Karr’s body was buried at the Wellman Cemetery.
