Biography:
Robert Rex, from Odebolt, graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1964. He was both coach and player on the Academy soccer team. While in Vietnam he flew a single engine O-2A “low and slow” over enemy territory while his observer looked for military activity. With no armament, the plane was always vulnerable and on March 9, 1969, his plane was shot down five miles into Laos. Robert Rex’s remains were never located and he was declared missing in action and later presumed dead.
