Biography:
Robert Jay Brinkman of Sheldon and graduated in May 1967 from Sheldon High School. He entered the service in May 1968 and began his tour in Vietnam on October 2, 1968. SP4 Brinkman served with the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment, also known as the Blackhorse Division. On April 13, 1969 a heavily armed enemy force attacked his unit near Tay Ninh. SP4 Brinkman used a machine gun to suppress the enemy before aiding a wounded comrade. He was shot and killed attempting to help the injured soldier. The 20-year-old was buried at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
