Biography:
Robert Milvoy Horsky of Cedar Rapids joined the Army Air Corps at the end of WWII in 1945. Later he served in the Air Force as a bomber pilot aboard B-52 Stratofortres planes. In 1965 MAJ Horsky deployed to Vietnam with the 309th Air Commando Squadron, 315th Air Commando Group, Thirteenth Air Force, stationed at Pleiku Air Base. On December 11, 1965, while aboard a C-123 Transport plane, MAJ Horsky was killed. His aircraft struck the tree tops along the ridge of mountain during bad weather. Three other Americans were killed in the crash. He was posthumously awarded the Air Medal. The 38-year-old was buried at the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids and he left behind a wife and young daughter.
