Rodney Lee Koerner

Rodney Lee Koerner of Le Mars graduated from Le Mars Community High School in the class of 1969. After graduation he enlisted in the Army and trained at a medic school in Texas. CPL Koerner arrived in Vietnam on March 1, 1970 and was assigned to work in an Army hospital. He was later transferred to the 101st Airborne Division to receive training to become a parachute medic. On the night of June 26, 1970 CPL Koerner was killed by hostile fire when his unit was attacked. A funeral service for the 19-year-old was held at Saint John’s American Lutheran Church in Le Mars. His body was buried at Resthaven Cemetery in Seney.
