Biography:
Roger Olson was born in Boone and moved with his family to Fort Dodge in 1951. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School and enlisted in the Navy in June 1966. He trained to be a corpsman and graduated from corps school in December 1966. After spending time in the surgical ward at Camp Pendleton in 1967, he deployed to Vietnam in December. He was attached to Marine Corps unit, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. On March 26th, Hospitalman Olson was killed by a mine while on combat operations in Thua Thien Province. He was buried in North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge.
