Biography:
Rollin Duane Davis was raised in Grand Junction and graduated from East Greene High School in 1966. After graduation Davis joined the Army and arrived in Vietnam in October 1967. He was stationed at Camp Evans in Central Vietnam. On the night of May 4, 1968 SP4 Davis was killed by a grenade that rolled into his tent. He suffered fragmentation wounds and died from his injuries. A funeral service for the 20-year-old was held at the United Methodist Church in Grand Junction and he was buried at the Hampton Cemetery. Davis was the first casualty of the Vietnam War from Greene County. He was to be married to his high school sweetheart when he returned home.
