Biography:
Des Moines native Ronald DeVere Duntz served in the Marine Corps when he deployed to Southeast Asia in January 1969. He was a rifleman in M Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines in the 1st Marine Division. On March 6, 1969 PFC Duntz volunteered to take point and lead his company up Hill 332. Shortly into the patrol his squad was ambushed by the enemy. PFC Duntz managed to provide just enough covering fire for other squad members to take cover. He died of multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was 20 years old at the time of his death. The young Iowans was buried at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
