Biography:
Ronald Eugene Johnson of Vinton attended Vinton High School before enlisting in the Marine Corps in January 1966. He began his tour in Vietnam in December of the same year. While on a patrol CPL Johnson suffered fragmentation wounds to his entire body after an enemy booby trap was triggered near Danang on July 6, 1967. He succumbed to his wounds just two days later at a military hospital. The 18-year-old’s body was buried at Evergreen Cemetery located in Vinton.
