Biography:
Ronald Leroy Means of Aurelia attended Washington High School in Cherokee before enlisting in the Army. He completed training from the Airborne Jump School at Fort Benning, GA on August 25, 1967. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY where he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division before leaving for Vietnam in December 1967. While in Vietnam he was stationed near the DMZ. SP4 Means died on February 5, 1968 from a gunshot wound he suffered while engaged in a firefight with hostile forces. The 19-year-old was buried at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cherokee.
