Biography:
Roy Roger Blewett grew up in Dubuque until he was drafted into the Army in 1965. PFC Blewett was an infantryman serving with the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. He was deployed to Southeast Asia in January 1966. His unit participated in Operation Attleboro, a major search and destroy mission northwest of Dau Tieng, South Vietnam. PFC Blewett was killed during a firefight with the enemy on November 5, 1966 when he received a gunshot wound to the head. Along with PFC Blewett, 44 other soldiers were killed in the engagement and a total of 155 Americans were killed during Attleboro. The 23-year-old’s body was buried at the Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque.
