Stanley Richard Smith

Stanley Smith grew up in Marshalltown and graduated from high school in 1955. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and was an officer with the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. His tour in Vietnam began in August 1967 in Quang Nam. Major Smith was killed when his vehicle detonated a land mine. He was married. Burial was at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
