Biography:
Steven Frank Edwards, known as “Weaver,” attended Adel Community High School although his family resided in De Soto. Edwards was a First Team All-Conference Football Fullback earning him the nickname “Weaver,” as someone who weaved through the defense. Additionally he was a standout wrestler and track athlete. He joined the Army in February 1968 and deployed to Vietnam in June 1969. He was killed on January 18, 1970 when his position was attacked near An Khe. He was posthumously promoted to Sergeant. The 21-year-old’s body was buried at the Oakdale Cemetery in Adel.
