Biography:
Steven Raney grew up in the small community of Swan in Marion County. He attended Pleasantville High School where he excelled in football, baseball, wrestling, and track. After graduation in 1964 he worked in his father’s machine shop before entering the Army in February 1966. He served in the Signal Corps as a repairman. His tour in Vietnam began in November 1966 with the 362nd Signal Corps, 37th Signal Brigade. He was killed February 2nd, 1968 at Khe Sanh by a rocket attack while working in a bunker. Specialist 4th Class Raney was on his second tour in Vietnam and a high school classmate, also on his second tour, was killed four days after his death. He was buried in Swan Memorial Cemetery.
