Steven Michael Mitchell

Steven Michael Mitchell was raised in rural Dodge Center, MN outside of Rochester. He was drafted by the Army then sent to Vietnam in July 1970. He served as a field radio repairman with the 5th Infantry Division. SP5 Mitchell was killed on May 21, 1971 from injuries sustained during an enemy rocket attack. Mitchell was killed only weeks before ending his one year tour. He was 21 years old at the time of his death. His family held a memorial service at the Baptist Church in Rochester and a military graveside service was held at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.
