Biography:
Steven Ray Stoltz was raised in Hampton before joining the Army. Stoltz was trained as a green beret and was sent to South Vietnam in late 1969. SGT Stoltz was wounded in March 1970, an incident in which he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After recovering from his injuries, Stoltz volunteered to continue his tour in the Special Forces with the 173rd Airborne or “Sky Soldiers.” On June 18, 1970 SGT Stoltz was killed by a booby trap in the Binh Dinh Province. His funeral service was held at the Congregational Church and he was buried at the Hampton Cemetery with full military honors.
