Steven Wayne Hendricks

Steven Wayne Hendricks of Hawarden was a member of the football team at West Sioux High School and graduated in 1969. He was drafted into the Army and started his tour in Vietnam on July 19, 1970. SP4 Hendricks was killed on May 26, 1971 when the military vehicle he was driving detonated a land mine during a combat operation in Quang Tri Province. A funeral service took place at the Associated Church and his body was buried at Grace Hill Cemetery, both located in Hawarden. The 20-year-old was due to return home in July.
