Biography:
Terry Lee Ivener, nicknamed Ivy League, grew up on a farm southeast of Sioux City. He attended Sioux City East High School where he participated in sports including football. He was described by classmates as a “happy go-lucky guy” who liked to dance and “take long drives in his red convertible.” Ivener was drafted into the Army and sent to Vietnam in May 1968. He served as a clerk for the 1st Aviation Brigade. On June 11, 1968, only twelve days into his tour, PFC Ivener was killed. He was a passenger aboard a Cessna O-1 Bird Dog observation plane when it was shot down by enemy fire. He was initially listed as missing in action and later changed to killed in action. His body was returned to Sioux City and buried at the Mount Carmel Cemetery.
