Biography:
Terry Ray Zimmerman was raised in Des Moines. He was a 1966 graduate of Lincoln High School. Zimmerman joined the Army in May 1967 and was sent to Vietnam in October of the same year. SP4 Zimmerman was serving as a Food Service Specialist at LZ Nancy. On the night of August 16, 1968 LZ Nancy was ambushed by enemy forces. The LZ was under construction and became overrun during the attack. The firefight took place inside the wire of the base. SP4 Zimmerman was fatally wounded, along with nineteen other soldiers, during the attack. The 19-year-old’s body was buried at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Indianola.
