Biography:
Terry Vernon Miller was raised in Ottumwa and went on to graduate from Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville, MO. He was drafted by the Army in July 1968 and trained as an infantryman. PFC Miller departed for Southeast Asia shortly after his 23rd birthday in March 1969. There he was assigned to the 1st Platoon of Bravo Company, 4th Battalion, 21st Infantry in the 11th Infantry Brigade or Americal Division. On the night of March 29, 1969 his unit’s defensive position was assaulted by an enemy force. PFC Miller, and a fellow soldier from Texas, died during the attack. Miller was posthumously promoted to corporal by the Army. His body was returned to Iowa and buried by his wife and family at the Ottumwa Cemetery in Wapello County.
