Biography:
Thomas Dewey Wilcox of Marion was a graduate of Washington High School in the class of 1967. He joined the Army shortly after graduation and began his tour in Vietnam in January 1968. Wilcox died six months later on June 4, 1968 when he was fatally wounded by an enemy booby trap while on a combat mission in the Quang Ngai Province. A funeral for the 19-year-old was held at Turner Chapel East in Cedar Rapids and his body was buried at Dunkard Cemetery located in Midway. Wilcox was posthumously promoted to corporal.
