Biography:
Thomas “Tom” Francis Delehant from Dunlap was a career soldier in the United States Army before being killed at the age of 30 in Vietnam. Sergeant First Class (SFC) Delehant started his tour in Southeast Asia in July 1970 as a Vehicle Repairman with the 5th Infantry Division. On May 21, 1971 his base was attacked by enemy rockets. SFC Delehant was killed during the attack along with 29 other Americans, including fellow Iowan SP5 Mitchell of Des Moines. Tom Delehant left behind a wife and three children, two daughters and a son. His remains were laid to rest at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap.
