Thomas Jon Burgeson

Thomas Jon Burgeson grew up on a farm near the small community of Greenville in Clay County. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 1968 and arrived in Vietnam in June of that year. He served with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines as a machine gunner. On February 24 his company was on a search and clear mission near the village of La Chou in Quang Nam Province. They came under intense fire from NVA forces for an entire day before assistance came. The death toll was 10 Marines and 2 Navy corpsmen. Lance Corporal Burgeson was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
