Biography:
Vernon G. Chase grew up in Sioux City. He enjoyed life and loved cars. He was drafted in 1965 into the Army and started his tour in Vietnam in July. He was attached to the 541st Transportation Company that provided support to the 1st Cavalry in the area between Qui Knom, An Khe and Pleiku in the Central Highlands. He was a driver for the “deuce and a half” trucks that hauled troops, supplies, construction material and whatever needed to be moved. Private First Class Chase died when his vehicle left the road and overturned at unrecorded location. He was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
