Biography:
Wayne Frank Whiteman was born in Bristol, England while his WWII veteran father was stationed abroad. The family moved to Cedar Rapids in the 1960s. He graduated from Washington High School in the class of 1965 and joined the Marine Corps shortly after as a mechanic. LCPL Whiteman died on October 22, 1967 from injuries he suffered when the vehicle he was in collided with a tank near Quang Tri Province. A funeral service for the 20-year-old took place in Lyons, KS where his family was living at the time. His body was buried at Bean Cemetery in Little River, KS.
