Biography:
Wayne Gary Wutzke of Vinton graduated from Washington High School and was married in May 1967. He then worked for Coots Materials Company in Vinton before enlisting in the Army on September 14, 1969. PFC Wutzke completed training at Fort Des Moines and began his tour in Vietnam in April 1970. One month later he was killed while on a mission during the Cambodian Incursion. His unit was fired upon by an enemy force and PFC Wutzke was mortally wounded. A funeral service was held at the First Baptist Church and his body was buried at Maplewood Cemetery, both located in Vinton. He left behind a wife and young daughter.
