Biography:
Clarence native Wayne Henry Hoffner served in the Army for 15 years before being killed in 1968. Before his tour in Vietnam he was deployed to Thailand. There he met his wife and later had two children. SFC Hoffner was sent to Vietnam in January 1968 right before the Tet Offensive. He was serving as an advisor to South Vietnamese infantrymen under the command of MACV. He was injured during a February firefight but continued his tour. On April 26, 1968 SFC Hoffner was killed by enemy fire during combat in the Kien Tuong Province southeast of Saigon. He was 33 years old at the time of his death and was buried at the Clarence Cemetery.
