Wheeler David Brooks

Wheeler Brooks grew up on a farm near Ollie in Keokuk County. After high school he entered the Army and advanced to Staff Sergeant with an Aero Rifle Platoon, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry in the Americal Division. The unit was completely mobile, meaning it fought from helicopters. His tour in Vietnam began on August 13th, 1970. He was killed June 20th while his unit was involved in heavy fighting in Quang Ngai Province in 1971 in an effort to support ARVN troops. He was buried in Ollie Cemetery.
