William David Monfore

William David Monfore of Remsen attended Tripp High School in Tripp, SD where he was a basketball player. After graduation he attended Southern State College in Springfield, SD and worked for Sioux City Dressed Beef before enlisting in the Marine Corps. PFC Monfore was sent to Vietnam in June 1966 where he served as a rifleman. On November 3, 1966 he was accidently shot in the abdomen by a fellow Marine near the Quang Nam Province and later died from his wound. His body was buried at Springfield Cemetery in Springfield, SD.
