Biography:
William “Bill” Eugene Weber was raised in Emmet County in the rural town of Dolliver. He graduated from Lincoln Central High School and attended Estherville Junior College. Weber was drafted by the Army and sent to Vietnam in August 1968. He was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division near the Mekong Delta region of South Vietnam. PFC Weber was killed three weeks into his tour on August 22, 1968. He died from multiple fatal fragmentation wounds inflicted during a firefight with the enemy. Originally listed as missing in action, the 19-year-old’s body was recovered and confirmed killed. His body was returned to Iowa and buried at the local Dolliver Cemetery.
