Biography:
Runnells native William Martin Clark joined the Marine Corps and was sent to South Vietnam in February 1970. He served as a rifleman in the 1st Force Recon Company in the 1st Marine Division. LCPL Clark died on August 4, 1970 from wounds inflicted by an enemy rocket propelled grenade to the chest. He was 19 years old and married at the time of his death. The young Marine’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Lowman Cemetery in Runnells.
