Biography:
William Morris Cozad grew up in Muscatine County and graduated from the Muscatine High School. As a young man he worked for the Thatcher Plastic Packing Company. Cozad was married twice, his second marriage taking place in June 1968. He was drafted into the Army in September 1969. He completed his basic training at Fort Polk, LA and was sent to Vietnam in March 1970. PFC Cozad served with the 1st Cavalry Division and was ordered into Cambodia as part of the 1970 Cambodian Incursion. He was killed 6 weeks into his tour on May 13, 1970. The circumstances of his death were classified. Cozad was posthumously promoted to Corporal. He left behind a young wife and a daughter from a previous marriage. The 21-year-old’s body was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Muscatine.
