Biography:
William Hatting lived in the Sibley most of his young life and graduated from Sibley High School in 1966. He went on to Worthington Junior College and then Mankato State College. He enlisted in the Army in 1969 and served with the 101st Airborne Division. After arriving in Vietnam in August, he became a machine gunner for Company E, 327 Infantry, known as the ‘Tiger Force’, a reconnaissance unit. He was killed during operations near Hue City on December 22, 1969. Prior to his death he was awarded a Bronze Star for his initiative, zeal, devotion and good judgement during the operation against the enemy over a five moment period. SP4 Hatting was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ashton.
