Biography:
William W. Kleffman grew up in the Portsmouth area in Shelby County, part of a large family of eight children. After finishing high school, he entered the Army. He deployed to Vietnam February 12, 1970 as a light vehicle driver with the 7th Battalion, 11th Artillery. His death was due to the accidental discharge of another soldier’s weapon while being cleaned. The incident occurred on Tay Ninh base camp on April 7, 1970. Private First Class Kleffman was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Portsmouth.
